Carers learn life saving basics |
|
A group of carers have learned life saving skills thanks to a pioneering project spearheaded by The Ely Centre, Enniskillen.
Project SACRED, delivered in partnership with victims group FAIR, Markethill, and supported by the EU funded PEACE III Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body, organises respite activities and training programmes for carers of victims and survivors of the troubles.
Carers were awarded certificates in First Aid for the Appointed Person, recognised and recommended by the Health and Safety Executive, at a special coffee morning at The Ely Centre today.
During the six hour training programme, fourteen Project SACRED partcipants had the opportunity to learn first aid basics including managing a first aid scene, treating burns and fractures, offering first aid support to people suffering a heart attack, stroke and seizures, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
In the New Year carers and the people they care for will have the opportunity to develop their confidence and skills with the roll out of mediation and communication skills training, reflexology training, Peace and Reconciliation activities and card making classes and personal safety training.
